How to Upgrade to Windows 10

Windows 10 upgrade licenses are available under Open License, SelectPlus/MPSA, and Enterprise Agreement volume licensing.

New for Windows 10 is Mobile Enterprise in volume licensing. It's included under Software Assurance per User. Standalone upgrade licenses can be purchased in Open License and Select Plus/MPSA.

Windows 10 Pro upgrade licenses through Open License and Select Plus/MPSA require a qualified underlying operating system license. Whether or not an organization has an active Software Assurance subscription determines the upgrade path. So now is the best time to ask your Zones account executive about adding the cost-saving upgrade benefits of Software Assurance.

Organizations with an active Software Assurance subscription have the benefit of upgrading to Windows 10 Enterprise with exclusive offerings. Windows Software Assurance (SA) and Windows Virtual Desktop Access (VDA) are now available per user or per device, which adds flexibility for both organizations and end users. For instance, the new Windows VDA per User option has no limit on devices and it includes new Mobile Enterprise.

There are a variety of Windows 10 volume licensing and standalone upgrade options. The free Windows 10 upgrade via download to individual devices is not recommended for organization-wide deployments. And where Microsoft volume licensing provides for them, free upgrade offers expire in July 2016. So where do you start?

Evaluate your volume licensing and strategically plan your Windows deployment with a Zones software licensing executive certified by Microsoft. To get started, contact your Zones account executive or call 800.408.9663.
